Field courses are a vital component of undergraduate geoscience education, yet some students, especially those with disabilities, are excluded from participation by physical and social barriers. The GeoSPACE Project aims to break down the barriers to field education with a unique hybrid planetary geology field course where students collaborate across field sites and from home through the use of communication technology. This presentation will explore the foundational principles, approach and tools of the field course, and the impact GeoSPACE has had on the retention and success of students from traditionally underserved identities in the geosciences.
