Grand Hotel Union Hall, Ljubljana – 9th February 2014 at 19.30
Many a person would say a serious symphonic concert programme without the obligatory symphony is rare or even impossible. Nevertheless, we are doing exactly that in the February’s concert of the Ljubljana International Orchestra. The source of inspiration is the unconventional Norwegian double bass player Knut Erik Sundquist, who is here performing as a soloist. For him, nothing is impossible in artistic performance. With his words: “Tradition is not binding, it lacks beauty”.
The performance of music by Nordic composers Lars Erik Larsson, Carl Nielsen, Edward Grieg and Jean Sibelius are not common in Slovenia. With the exception of Grieg’s music they are moreover very rare and always a true discovery/pure revelation. These are the treasures from the North , dances, fantasy journeys, miniatures and incidental music we have prepared for the second concert of the Ljubljana International Orchestra.
The concert will be a charity concert for the benefit of the Ključ Association operating a safe house in Ljubljana, whose efforts are directed towards prevention of human trafficking. This will be organised in collaboration with the Municipality of Ljubljana.
