The inaugural TEDxYoungstown will take place on January 24, 2014, at the Williamson College of Business Administration on the campus of Youngstown State University. The theme for the independently organized event, licensed by TED, is “Innovation.”
The TEDxYoungstown planning committee is made up with representatives from the Mahoning Valley Young Professionals, Park Vista of Youngstown, The Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County, the Youngstown Business Incubator, and the Youngstown/Warren Regional Chamber. Representatives from FirstEnergy, Roof Rite and O’Donold’s Irish Pub are also serving on the planning committee.
Over the next few months committee members will seek event sponsors and speakers, and prepare to sell tickets. “We are still working out a lot of the details, but we are excited to have received our designation as an official TEDx. Now the real planning can get underway,” stated Lori Shandor, planning committee chairperson and gift planning/campaign director at Park Vista of Youngstown. As plans unfold, information will be updated on the TEDxYoungstown Facebook page. A website for the event is also being developed.
“As this first TEDxYoungstown comes together, we are excited to see all the innovative topics and performances that become part of this event. Innovation is everywhere in Youngstown right now so it makes sense as our theme for the first TEDxYoungstown,” commented Colleen Kelly, planning committee member and director of development for the Youngstown Business Incubator. Details on how speakers will be selected will be announced in late August.
