LULAC’s Latinos Living Healthy
Hispanic Health Week of Action :
Bilingual Health Town Hall
Latin American Youth Center: 1419 Columbia Road, NW, Washington, DC 20009
In collaboration with the Latin American Youth Center, the League of United Latin American Citizens is hosting a Spanish-language health town hall at the LAYC offices on Monday, October 28th from 5:30pm to 7:00pm.
Taking place during the National Hispanic Health Week of Action, this health town hall will cast a spotlight on the health of the Latino community. Health experts, community leaders, and promot@res will discuss the benefits of the Affordable Care Act, the health marketplace – which allows Americans to compare and purchase health coverage options – and the Open Enrollment process – that will remain open until March 31, 2014.
They will also discuss the process for purchasing and comparing health plans, how to navigate the health marketplace, where you can go for help, and how to avoid scams and other fraudulent activities. The Spanish-language resources developed by the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services will be available to the public.
Latinos represent one third of the nation’s uninsured, have higher rates of chronic diseases and often have lower rates of receiving necessary preventative care. Considering the current state of Latino health, it is crucial that Latino’s participate in the newly reformed healthcare system to remedy these issues.
