This is a big night at Dizzy’s; perfect for our Coca-Cola Generations in Jazz Festival, we bring you the Dizzy’s debut of Orrin Evans and the Captain Black Big Band, the DownBeat critics’ poll winner for Best Rising Star Big Band. Even better, they will perform new arrangements of classic Sun Ra tunes, on the same weekend the Sun Ra Arkestra with Marshall Allen plays in The Allen Room. This is the first Sun Ra tribute from hard-hitting pianist Evans and his generation-spanning big band, so get in the spirit, join the festivities at Jazz at Lincoln Center for what would have been Sun Ra’s 100th birthday, and enjoy the ride.
