With Joe Sanders, bass; Gerald Clayton, piano; and Greg Hutchinson, drums
A perfect thematic fit for the Coca-Cola Generations in Jazz Festival, young, in-demand bassist Joe Sanders will pay tribute to the life and music of bassist Oscar Pettiford. Pettiford was a crucial component of jazz, particularly bebop, having worked for and/or led groups with Coleman Hawkins, Dizzy Gillespie, Duke Ellington, Ben Webster, Cannonball Adderley, and more… all before his death in 1960 at the age of 37. Pettiford is also considered the pioneer of cello as a solo instrument in jazz. Joe Sanders’ group features two highly renowned contemporaries, Gerald Clayton and Greg Hutchinson; Clayton, still in his twenties, has been personally GRAMMY® Award-nominated both as a composer and a soloist, and Greg Hutchinson, who has worked with the best of the best living jazz musicians, has been called “the drummer of his generation” by JazzTimes.
The Coca-Cola Generations in Jazz Festival showcases an array of up-and-coming musicians alongside some of today’s most established jazz masters.
