In lieu of gifts for his 31st birthday in 2006, charity: water founder Scott Harrison asked his friends to donate $31 to help him build a well in Africa. He raised $15,000, funding charity: water’s first water project in Uganda and launched the annual September Campaign. Since then, thousands of people around the world have given up their birthdays every September, raising an average of $1 million a year. To date, the organization has funded 6,185 water projects that will provide access to clean, safe drinking water for more than 2.5 million people in 20 countries.
Join Huge and charity: water’s Director of Digital, Paull Young, as we discuss the strategy behind the September Campaign, the benefits and challenges of utilizing technology for social good, and what digital methods other non-profits can apply to their own efforts.
