In fiscal year 2013, the Department of Veterans Affairs gave schools more than $12 billion in benefits for veterans’ higher education. However, there are concerns that some of these schools received those funds after inappropriately recruiting student veterans. GAO examined schools’ veteran recruitment practices and other student veteran concerns. Melissa Emrey-Arras, a director in GAO’s Education, Workforce, and Income Security team, will discuss the findings of GAO’s study and answer questions about this and other recent GAO work on veterans and higher education.
