The University of Arizona Wind Ensemble and Wind Symphony present “Lincoln's Birthday Tribute,” a patriot themed concert. UA President Ann Weaver Hart will be featured as narrator, and UA faculty pianist Tannis Gibson will perform as soloist. This all-American musical celebration will take place in Crowder Hall on Wednesday, February 12, 2014 at 7:30 p.m.
Conductors Gregg Hanson and Kevin Holzman, assisted by graduate conductor Oscar Thorp are pleased to present UA President Ann Weaver Hart on Crowder Hall's stage narrating Aaron Copland's "Lincoln Portrait" as the centerpiece of this musical feast. “Lincoln Portrait” honors Abraham Lincoln with a reading of descriptions and speech excerpts, including the Gettysburg Address, all accompanied by the vast American colors of Copland’s music. In addition, faculty pianist Tannis Gibson will perform George Gershwin's famous and dazzling "Rhapsody in Blue."
Marches and medleys highlight this festive evening. The program also includes Morton Gould’s “American Suite,” Jerry Bilik’s “American Civil War Fantasty,” and “Espirit de Corps" by Robert Jager, along with Sousa favorites.
