Join Atlanta Jobs with Justice in support of Wal-Mart workers taking action around the country on Black Friday (Nov. 29th), the biggest shopping day of the year. Walmart workers are standing up to the largest corporation in world and calling for a living wage and an end to retaliation against those who bravely speak out.
This year thousands of Walmart workers are forced to miss Thanksgiving Dinner with their families because they are required work as Wal-Mart begins their major sale on Thanksgiving Day this year. While Wal-Mart reaps in millions in profits this holiday season, their workers are living paycheck to paycheck, struggling to put food on the table and care for their families.
An example of this gross inequality and hypocrisy can be found at a Wal-Mart in Canton, Ohio where managers set up a Thanksgiving food drive for struggling employees many of which who will have to work on Thanksgiving. A one time food drive for workers who can't afford to eat is Wal-Mart's solution because they are unwilling to pay these workers a higher wage to feed themselves.
WHAT: We will meet at the Wal-Mart at Vine City (on MLK Jr. Dr.) where we will start a tour of Walmarts around Atlanta highlighting Wal-Mart workers struggle for fair compensation and treatment.
WHEN: Friday Nov 29th at 10:00 am
WHERE: Everyone please meet up with us at 10:00 am across the street in front of the Busy Bee Cafe at 810 Martin Luther King Jr Dr SW Atlanta, GA 30314.
If you know anyone who works at Walmart please invite them and send them to the OUR Walmart Website: www.forrespect.org for more information.
