Cyrano de Bergerac, by French poet-playwright Edmond Rostand, tells the story of a man who is both a skilled, courageous swordsman and an eloquent speaker and writer. Yet he has one flaw—his large nose.
Secretly in love with the beautiful Roxane but convinced that he is too ugly to win her love, Cyrano agrees to help the young nobleman Christian—who is handsome, but not quite bright—woo Roxane instead. Roxane falls in love with Christian’s handsome appearance first, but gradually comes to treasure Cyrano’s romantic letters and speeches even more, all the while believing that they are from Christian. Will the truth ever come out? And if it does, whom will Roxane choose?
Rostand’s swashbuckling poet-hero is brought to life in this exciting production by the University Classic Players with Darren Lawson in the title role.
